President's Message

It gives me great pleasure to be leading ASHRAE NY Chapter’s Board of Governor this society year and following in the footsteps of pioneers before me. These are unprecedented times, and I am blessed to have many past presidents on the board for guidance as well as a board that is committed to serving our society. My theme for this year’s Board of Governors is “Consistency, Collaboration, Continuity”.

While the impact of COVID-19 is changing daily and civil unrest are affecting our neighborhoods, ASHRAE NY’s programming continued to be a beacon for knowledge. Our programming this year, while virtual, will continue to be consistent in providing our membership with thoughtful and timely topics.

The launch of the Cross-Learning Alliance had identified “collaboration” as the key to designing and maintaining high-performance buildings. As ASHRAE NY furthers our collaborations with AIA New York, Urban Green, and other organizations, we must remember that our events are backed by selfless volunteers. So we will be posting committee meeting links for those who are interesting to taking part in our community as volunteers.

Continuity can be defined as “a function that does not have any abrupt changes”. While we must adapt to today’s uncertainties, the function of ASHRAE NY remains unchanged. We are your resource for Local Law, Energy Code, and Design updates. We are also strengthening our internal processes to better sustain our growth.

Join us in our programming and committee meetings to help resume normalcy, to share our vision to give back, and to exemplify ASHRAE’s core values of Excellence, Collaborations, and Commitment.

Welcome to another ASHRAE year, and I look forward to seeing you at our meetings.

Tony (Waikit) Tsang

ASHRAE NY President 2020-2021
