ASHRAE NYC Chapter - October 2024 Print

President's Report

Hello ASHRAE members,

On October 24th, 2024, we will turn 113 years old. Happy Birthday ASHRAE New York City!

It is truly an honor to be part of such a long-standing organization and I am thankful for the opportunity to add to our legacy and outstanding reputation. ASHRAE NYC has been (and continues to be) a ‘lighthouse’ for many generations of engineering professionals; shining light on the collective challenges our industry faces as well as the incredible solutions our members are capable of producing. Our member-centric approach leads our decision making and is a guiding force for everything we do. We are working to grow our membership this year to reach over 1,000 active ASHRAE NYC members. Please help us achieve this goal by inviting your colleagues and friends to become an ASHRAE NYC member. For more information about ASHRAE membership benefits and how to join, please visit https://www.ashrae.org/membership/member-benefits.

Congratulations to the inaugural cohort of ASHRAE Certified Decarbonization Professionals (CDPs). The Certified Decarbonization Professional (CDP) program, initiated and funded by the ASHRAE Center of Excellence for Building Decarbonization, is an international certification that validates the competency of decarbonization professionals to assess, analyze, and develop effective and sustainable strategies to reduce or eliminate the life-cycle carbon footprint of new and existing buildings. By earning this certification, industry professionals demonstrate to peers, employers and building owners competency in critical building decarbonization job tasks. As stated by (Society Year 2024-2025) ASHRAE President M. Dennis Knight, P.E., BEMP, Fellow Life Member ASHRAE, "Decarbonization is essential to our global sustainability goals, and ASHRAE is committed to empowering professionals with the skills and knowledge necessary to lead the charge…The Certified Decarbonization Professional program is not just a milestone for ASHRAE, but a much needed tool for the industry as we work toward a net-zero future." I encourage everyone to relentlessly pursue their own definition of success, live life with a mindset of continuous growth, and make a positive impact. ASHRAE Certification is a great tool to help you reach your professional and personal goals. For more information on how you can become ASHRAE Certified, please visit https://www.ashrae.org/professional-development/ashrae-certification.

Our chapter has made important improvements to our internal operations and systems which will help facilitate a smoother experience for our members and sponsors. We have revamped our Chapter Sponsorship process to better leverage technology, resulting in a faster and easier invoicing and payment process. Our sponsor benefits packages are in the process of being updated and pricing for our sponsorship opportunities will (necessarily) be increasing, starting January 1, 2025, to keep up with rising operational costs. If your company (or you as an individual) has an interest in becoming an ASHRAE NYC sponsor or renewing your existing sponsorship, you should do so right away to ensure you lock-in our best current pricing.

Please visit https://ashraeny.org/Sponsorship to view our current sponsorship opportunities.

I would like to remind everyone of ASHRAE’s mission, vision and core values, and introduce once more the Chapter Level and Society Level Presidential Themes for this year:
