Interconnection and Distributed Generation in Con Edison Service Territories

This talk will cover the requirements of the interconnection process and the best practices that will minimize delays in the construction schedule.  The talk will also cover the basics of interconnection, the benefits of distributed generation to the Con Edison electric grid.  The talk will conclude with the DG incentive programs that are available and discuss some the city’s position and vision for the future of DG.

Speakers Bio:

Jim Skillman is a Distributed Generation Project Manager for Consolidated Edison of New York.  He joined Con Edison in 2006 and has over a decade of utility experience, half of that time working directly with DG installers.  In his former assignment as a member of Brooklyn Energy Services, he personally inspected and approved thirty-five distributed generation installations totaling over two megawatts of capacity.  

In his current role as part of Con Edison’s Distributed Generation Group, Jim has worked to standardize policies across the five boroughs of New York City and Westchester County, improve internal procedures to streamline DG interconnection, and provide customers and installers a central voice for oversight and advocacy for their projects.  He has helped developers interconnect over two hundred megawatts of solar power in Con Edison territory, and was recently awarded a Technology Transfer Award from the Electric Power Research Institute for his work on a Photovoltaic Adoption Forecasting Tool. 

Jim received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the United States Naval Academy, and served in the Navy as a Nuclear Surface Warfare Officer.  He also holds a Master’s of Science in Organizational Leadership from Mercy College, and has earned a Project Management Professional certificate.
