Emily Hoffman, PE will provide a brief overview of the NYC Energy Code progress and enforcement over the last 5 years.  Then, discuss some of the major changes to the 2016 NYCECC that went into effect on October 3, 2016 – including envelope, HVAC, lighting, commissioning, energy modeling, and operational changes.  She will also highlight some of the common objections that NYC DOB sees on HVAC submissions.  And, finally she’ll discuss the future of the NYCECC – including recent policy changes and anticipated enforcement changes.

Emily Hoffman, PE is the Director of Energy Code Enforcement at the New York City Department of Buildings, overseeing the team ensuring energy code compliance in the five boroughs as well as educating the public on energy compliance. She brings 13 years of experience in the energy field - specifically in the fields of energy modeling and commissioning for LEED projects and energy auditing for utility incentives.  She has led the agency in updating the 2014 and 2016 NYC Energy Codes, she was a voting member of the IECC 2018 Commercial Energy Code Committee and will also serve on the 2021 IECC Commercial Energy Code committee.  She is a NYS Professional Engineer, a Certified Energy Manager, and a LEED Accredited Professional.
