This year the New York Chapter of ASHRAE will present our Distinguished Service Award to Ms. Fiona Cousins, PE, FCIBSE, LEED Fellow
ARUP Fellow, Principal, Mechanical Engineering and Sustainability Consulting


Fiona Cousins is a Principal in the New York office of Arup where she is one of the leaders of the Buildings Group and a member of the Americas Region Board. She holds degrees in Engineering Science and Interdisciplinary Design for the Built Environment from the University of Cambridge and has spent her career engaged in HVAC design, with specialization in thermal comfort and energy efficiency. Fiona is interested in the way in which design contributes to our everyday lives and experience within the built environment and developed a strong interest in sustainability during the 1990s. Since then she has worked on many LEED Platinum and Zero Net Energy projects.

Significant projects include the US Embassy in London, Princeton University’s Chemistry Building and the Bloomberg Center at Cornell Tech on Roosevelt Island. Fiona served for two years as the chair of Urban Green and for one year as the chair of USGBC. She is on the board of the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation and the Architecture League of New York. She co-authored Two Degrees: The Built Environment and Our Changing Climate. She was the CIBSE Annual Lecturer in 2016: How Building Services Engineers can save Civilization.
