Program Summary:

The presentation provides a brief review of ASHRAE 62.1 and how to apply needlepoint cold plasma technology combined with the IAQP which will allow the reduction of outside air up to 75%, due to the technology’s ability to control gases produced by the building, furnishings and occupants. The method in which cold plasma reduces particles and also kills mold, bacteria and virus will be discussed.

This discussion focuses on the concept of cleaning the indoor air to a higher degree through the use of air purification to reduce the need for outside air for dilution of indoor generated contaminants. A case study will be covered to prove first cost reduction, operational savings and acceptable IAQ are all achieved employing the IAQ Procedure using needlepoint cold plasma technology.

Speaker Bio:

Charles “Charlie” Waddell is the Chief Technology Officer and Founder of Global Plasma Solutions, Inc., the premier manufacturer of Needlepoint Bipolar Ionization (NPBI) products for the indoor air purification market.  His experience includes designing HVAC systems for the residential, commercial and industrial markets as well as for the automotive, hand dryer and aviation industry. Charlie holds a BSEE from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA.  Charlie was EVP at MeadWestvaco Air Systems and GM of Desiccant Rotors International prior to founding GPS.

Charlie is an active member of ASHRAE and currently a participant of ASHRAE SSPC 62.1, TC 2.3 (Gas Phase Filtration), SPC-145, TRG4-IAQP, and formerly the secretary of TC 8.12 (Desiccant Dehumidification & Components).  Charlie has over 18 years of HVAC design and application experience.   He is the preeminent authority on Electronic Air Cleaners and ionization equipment for air purification and is sought after as a speaker at events and meetings, having presented at over 50 different ASHRAE Meetings in the last 5 years.  He has also presented at numerous Virginia School Plant Management Association and Georgia School Plant Management Association Conferences.  Charlie’s portfolio includes 27 patents granted, 24 patents pending, and an article published in Engineered Systems Magazine on desiccant dehumidification.
