ASHRAE NY invites you to join our esteemed panel consisting of representative HVAC industry professionals to review the results of the highly informative Round Table event hosted by the ASHRAE Refrigeration Committee in January of 2017. You’ll have the chance to analyze feedback from the event and discuss the challenges and opportunities associated with the design, construction, commissioning, and operation of mechanical systems in today’s world.
The Event will consist of a presentation of lessons learned during the Round Table, followed by a panel discussion during which the audience will be given the opportunity to ask questions directly to the presenter and panelists. Light snacks and refreshments will be served. We look forward to seeing you!

Biographies:

Anthony M. Arbore, PE, LEED AP

Since joining JB&B in 1982, Anthony Arbore, currently a partner at the firm, has served as project manager on a wide variety of projects, particularly demonstrating his expertise on the construction of high-rise towers such as 3 World Trade Center, 30 Hudson Yards and 8 Spruce Street (Beekman Tower), all in New York City.  He also has extensive experience with luxury hotel and entertainment buildings, such as the Four Seasons Hotel New York and the Revel Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, NJ.  Mr. Arbore has led JB&B project teams on some of the firm’s top-tier financial projects, including the Bank of China Head Office Building in Beijing, China as well as its U.S. headquarters in New York City, and various locations for JPMorgan Chase.  He has acted as project manager on chiller plant renovations and for large central plants, including the Inlet District Energy Center serving the Revel Hotel and Casino. He is also one of the Technical Directors with the JB&B Special Inspections Agency.

Mr. Arbore holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree and Master’s degree, both in Mechanical Engineering, from Manhattan College and is a licensed Professional Engineer in twelve jurisdictions.  He currently serves on the 2017 NYC Construction Codes Revision Committee for Special Inspections and the ACEC New York Metro Region Mechanical Codes Committee, and is a corresponding member of the ASHRAE Standard 90.1 Project Mechanical Subcommittee.

Joseph Azara

Joseph F. Azara, Jr., President of C.D.E. Air Conditioning Co., Inc. has been a leader in New York’s HVAC industry for over forty years.  Since it’s founding in 1930 by Mr. Azara’s father, Joseph Sr., the company has grown from a residential refrigerator repairer to the HVAC contractor that it is today.  

Mr. Azara has been actively involved with the Subcontractors Trade Association (STA) as a member of it’s Board of Directors, serves as Chairman of the Public Agency Committee and is Vice Chairman of the Safety Group Executive Committee.  In addition, he is a Past President of the New York Chapter of The American Society of Heating, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and was the General Chairman of the “2008 ASHRAE Winter Meeting”. 

Mr. Azara holds a BSME degree from the New York Institute of Technology.  He and his wife Christine, are the proud parents of three children:  Jennifer, Suzanne and Brian and they are the doting grandparents of four: Olivia, Isabel, Liam and Oliver.  Mr. Azara credits his success to his family’s support.

Lucas Janes

Lucas Janes serves as a Director of Energy Services for the Fulcrum Group and is active in the construction, commissioning and operations lines of business. He is responsible for identifying, developing and implementing all of Fulcrum’s energy services solutions. Presently he is leading Fulcrum’s engagement at One World Trade Center where Fulcrum is assisting the operations team with closing out the base building construction and transitioning the 3.5 million GSF facility to the daily operations team.

Mr. Janes is an Associate Member of ASHRAE and received his B.S. degree in Engineering from Swarthmore College. He has secured his State of New York Professional Engineers license. He is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM).

Michael Tortorella, PE

Michael Tortorella has 12 years of building systems design and project management experience.  Mike’s range of experience includes the development of mechanical, plumbing and fire protection designs for sports facilities, commercial office buildings, residential buildings, education buildings, health care facilities, museums, restaurants and other commercial facilities.

Mike has recently completed the Arthur Ashe Stadium Retractable Roof project at the National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York.  In addition to leading the mechanical design for this project, Mike was also a key member of the Stadium’s environmental control team during the 2016 US Open, which involved a commissioning process to confirm the systems were performing as designed and development of a deployment strategy for the roof and dehumidification systems in concert with the rest of the USTA’s team.

Ron Jerman

Ron Jerman is currently the Vice President of Commercial Operations for the Durst organization and oversees the operation of 10 commercial properties, 4 residential properties, 7 buildings under construction and one 4.6 megawatt power plant all totaling approximately 20 million square feet.

Ron has been working within the building operations industry since 1986, starting his carreer as a local 94 Operating Engineer working with several different management companies learning the intricacies of various MEP systems.  He earned the title of Chief Engineer at The Durst Organization and oversaw operations at 4 Times Square, the United States’ first “green” skyscraper, moving on to become Chief Engineer of The Bank of America Tower at One Bryant Park, America’s first LEED Platinum skyscraper, after which he was promoted to his current position in the corporate office. During his 22 years at The Durst Organization he has implemented operational procedures, optimized MEP performance, overseen all MEP capital upgrades throughout the portfolio, designed energy management operating strategies, set safety standards and policies, and worked on renovation and new construction projects totaling over one billion dollars.

Ron studied business at SUNY Farmingdale and is currently on the Board of Directors for BOMA, St.Judes Childrens Hospital(kids for kids), and The Lowes Syndrome Association.
